Process monitoring for material extrusion additive manufacturing: a state-of-the-art review

Abstract Qualitative uncertainties are a key challenge for the further industrialization of additive manufacturing. To solve this challenge, methods measuring process states and properties parts during manufacturing essential. The subject review is in-situ monitoring material extrusion objectives are, first, to quantify research activity on topic, second, analyze utilized technologies, finally, identify gaps. Various databases were systematically searched relevant publications total 221 analyzed in detail. study demonstrated that field has been gaining importance. Numerous sensor technologies analysis algorithms have identified. Nonetheless, gaps exist topics such as optimized systems industrial facilities, inspection capabilities additional quality characteristics, standardization aspects. This literature first address using systematic comprehensive approach.
